Nielsen 2010 Reunion Wrap Up

We did it! We were able to get together as offspring of Nana & Poppop. Here is a look at our 24th of July weekend of events:

Friday night started with a visit to the Mt. Timpanogos Temple. We had a great session and enjoyed visiting. We may or may not have gotten shooshed out of the Celestial Room.


Saturday found us at the Pioneer Day Parade on Spanish Fork Main Street. Jay & Jolynn got us a great spot and even provided some shade.

It was off to the church pavilion where we ate the best lunch ever:

We were glad to see Doug and Jeanette. We missed the rest of their crew. We knew they were there in spirit! (see Jeff, we really did have a reunion!)

We did some skits and shared some memories. We remembered the fun we had with Nana & Poppop and celebrated the things they taught us and how they touched our lives. Here are a few videos:




Thank you Barbara for providing us each with a great book that celebrates family reunions. What a great way to remember our time together!

After our gathering during the day, the party moved to Virginia's where pizza was served along with some more visiting.

Sunday evening found us at Virginia's again where we remembered Nana & Poppop and celebrated the fact that it was their anniversary.
We ended the reunion with a bang. Fireworks helped us celebrate a weekend of fantastic catching up with those that live far away.
Thanks to all of those that traveled far and wide to attend. Thanks to those that planned and executed meals, t-shirts, games, building reservations, parade spots, Otter Pop distribution during a hot morning (thanks D & J!) and helping us all to remember that we are one big happy family!

Baby Number Three

We are expecting our third baby on November 30th. We found out about three weeks ago that we are having a little girl. We are all very excited. The boys are excited as well, and can't wait to spoil their baby sister. We hope all is going well.
We heard that the reunion was a blast. We wish we could have been
there.

Food Assignments/Saturday July 24th

We are estimating that we will arrive at the Pavilion after the parade is over, between 10:30 and 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Here are the food assignments for lunch:

Hot Dogs & Chicken and other lunch necessities:

We estimate around 40 people will be in attendance. There is a grocery store (Macey's) right by the pavilion where the reunion will be. So if you need to pick up your chips, dessert or any other items right before the lunch, that is available.

Reunion Itinerary

Friday, July 23rd

5:30pm session at the Mount Timp Temple.

Saturday, July 24th

Pioneer Parade in Spanish Fork on Center St. at 9am

Jolynn will text or call, everyone, Friday evening with exact location.

Bring camp chairs, umbrellas, or the like, for comfort. Cleggs will bring extra to share.

After the parade, we'll go to the Clegg's ward building and pavillion.

Jolynn will provide printed directions. Once there, we will do the following:

Family Pictures - Kordel will choose the place, positioning, and setup one tripod and camera. Other tripods and cameras are welcomed.

Lunch - Refer to Vanessa and Jolynn's posting for lunch info.

Games - Childrens with Sandy and Krissy, Youth with Cliff, and Adult. ADULTS: Bring table or board games.

Skits with Barbara - Each family will have something to tell, sing, or act out about a memory of their family or a memory of Nana and Pop pops. REMEMBER THE FIVE MINUTE LIMIT.

*After the skits and until 6:30pm, it will be free time. There's a Payson Pool, 1-7pm, $4 for those over 4.

Dinner - There will be pizza, drinks, and dessert for everyone at the pavillion.

After dinner - about 8pm - Spanish Fork Sports Park is an option. There are several big ball fields that can be sat on. Blankets, camp chairs, and goodies can be brought as well as mitts and balls. Bands will be playing. There are nice restrooms, an open snack bar and the fields are well lighted. The city website states that fireworks will begin at 10:15pm.

Sunday, July 25th

Church - There are options.

Cleggs church begins at 1pm

Virginia's building has 8:30am, 10:30am, 12:30, and 2:30pm

Mom and Dad's ward begins at 1pm (I'm almost sure that their ward name is Bonneville 13th.) Shawn looked it up on the internet by their address.

Virginia has invited us to dinner. She has asked if we would email her whether we'll be coming to their home for dinner and if we'll need to leave by a certain time. That will help with her planning. Virginia's email is 1498familyhistory@sfcn.org .

Shawn and I are currently working on the Reunion t-shirt. We hope to send you a final image of what the t-shirts will look like by Wednesday night. Would you please send out a post asking who would be interested in purchasing a t-shirt? The price of the t-shirt would be between $10.00 and $12.00 per shirt. The more t-shirt requests we have, the cheaper each shirt will be.

Hi Everybody,

I’ve enjoyed your comments and have tried, twice, to add my own, but I’m not doing something that will enable them to be posted.

• On Friday, let’s attend the 5:30pm session.

• Will those who have children decide on the sitting?

• Kordel, will you oversee the family picture? I like the idea of doing it right away after the parade.

• Vanessa and Jolynn, Would you still like to plan lunch and let us know our assignments? If that is still your thought, Bill and I will take care of dinner or viceversa.

• Let’s have the skits on Saturday and still gather on Sunday.

An Update to the Update of the

Jim and Margaret Family Reunion

The Weekend of July 24th

Hi Everyone,

There’s two months left before we gather for our reunion. With a few exceptions, I do hope you’re planning to come. I think we’re a neat family and I‘d like us to spend a weekend together.

• A month or so ago, Bill found out that the Provo Temple will still

be closed on our weekend. The Mt Timp Temple is open. Will that

be fine? What is a good time for a session?

• Games and lunch will be at Jolynn's church house pavilion after the parade.

Jolynn and Vanessa have also offered to help plan the lunch.

Sandy and Krissy will be doing the games for the young

and Cliff will be doing the games for our teens.

We can have table games or others games for those who don’t

fall in the other categories. WOULD SOMEONE LIKE TO “OVER
SEE” THOSE?

• QUESTION?

Would you like the skits on Saturday rather than on Sunday?

Originally, the skits were planned for Sunday in conjunction

with dinner. However, some of our family members may be leaving

for home before then.

Skits – Each family unit, Jolynn and Jay, Tom and Cathy, Krissy and Shawn, and so on are asked to have a family memory

acted out in some way. This can be done through poem, song, or the like. The memory can be of mom and dad’s home life or a memory of our own family. Is that confusing? The key is a FAMILY MEMORY. The skit can be up to five minutes but no more.

• Sunday – Church and Dinner (early dinner) at Virginia’s.

• Family Photo – Is there a preface of when to have a picture taken?

Also, is there someone who would like to take charge of it?

• Would you still like a family shirt?

Reunion Question

Hi Everyone,

During the reunion, would it be better if we had the program on another day other than Sunday? The reason is because there may be those leaving, before the program, in order to be at work on Monday?

• Temple Session on Friday, July 23

Suggest a time and temple

• Games for everyone on Saturday, 24 – after the parade

Suggest a time and place – If it’s near lunch or dinner, that can be part of it. Someone else will organize the lunch or dinner.

An hour or so of games will be organized by someone else. Games for the young, teens, and adults

• Church on Sunday - Attend church at Mom and Dad’s ward.

Find out the time and directions - I know we know where their chapel is but….

"She was greatly ambitious to have lovely gardens where ever she lived.
In her own home surroundings she worked very hard to keep her flowers
the very best that she could. It seemed that anything she planted would
grow for her, either from seed, sticks or slips.

She was well beloved by all her friends. She had the capacity of making
friends where ever she went. She was lovingly called “MA” by the
friends of her children as well as many others. She delighted in having her
family bring their friends to her home and often arranged midnight
lunches for them to come home to after they had been to parties.

No one ever left her door hungry. She had great civic pride and tried
so very much to beautify her own property, inspiring her neighbors to do
likewise. Moving to a new home she worked hard to beautify this location. She
also raised canary birds.

She also spent many hours visiting the sick, thru her ward Relief
Society.

She was a rather retiring person, about five feet, seven inches tall,
dark eyes, keen sense of humor, very artistic, a wonderful home maker, good
cook and seamstress.

Maybe this reminds you of more than one person!!! List all the names.

Family Reunion 2010

I had a totally different write-up in the making , after viewing the survey results, and since talking with Virginia and Tom; this is my question:

Could we not have a wonderful "Jim and Margaret Family Reunion" in Utah on the Friday - Sunday of the July 24 weekend?

I know what "the survey said" (that sounds like Family Feud) but I'm wondering about who will be coming to it in San Diego.
To some, Utah would be as good as here.

Lost Nielsen Family Photo (Virginia)

Here are 2 new photos I received from my cousin Connie. Her dad Conway (one of Poppop's brothers)had these in his files. Along with several other family members.

The jury is still out on when this photo was taken. Either late 1951 or early 1952.


The big group photo includes my grandparents Mima/Niels, 2 of the triplets - Alan/Walter, Midge in front by Barbara,Ken/Shirley, Conway/Marie, Ab (father of Midge) and of course Dad (Jim) and us 3 girls!
